Principal, Health Economics Modelling, Abingdon, UK

ICON Health Economics (HE) is currently seeking to appoint a Principal to join its European Health Economics team located in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. This team is highly respected in the field of health technology assessment (HTA) for quality and innovation, undertaking consultancy projects for international clients in both the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors.

The candidate recruited for this role will be expected to utilise their skills in decision modelling and related statistical analysis to contribute to all aspects of the department’s work as well as supporting the development of the Health Economics team both locally and globally.

Overview of the role

  • Manage all aspects of country-level and global health economic modelling projects and ensure the quality of all deliverables meets client requirements
  • Establish and maintain client relationships and take the lead with proposal development for health economic related projects
  • Provide strategic contribution to business development processes
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior modellers, identify and manage training needs and provide on the job training and support as required
  • Liaise with senior management in all ICON HE offices globally to identify developmental needs in junior modellers and to provide training when possible
  • Manage the development and preparation of peer-reviewed publications arising from health economic projects
  • Form part of the management team of the European practice in the day to day management of the Abingdon group
  • Demonstrate and actively promote an open and honest working environment
  • Travel (approximately 15%) domestic or international

Role Requirements

·         Proven track record of publications in

o    Health economic modelling – cost-effectiveness & budget impact analyses including conceptualization utilizing Excel/ R/ VBA

o    Statistical analytical skill-set – regression modeling and survival analyse

·         Demonstrable experience in unique modelling methodologies, such as DES, partitioned survival analyses, microsimulations

·          Experience in developing models utilizing R (desirable) and Excel/ VBA (essential)

  • HTA submissions  - leading submission and partaking in HTA advice meetings
  • Strong thought-leadership and client relationship management
  •  Line management experience with experience in managing cross-office teams
  • Modelling/ Statistical skills in Excel/VBA, SAS/STATA, R, Win Bugs
  • Master’s degree in Health Economics or Epidemiology/Economics/Statistics or a related quantitative discipline.

This is a permanent, full time position. The salary is competitive and negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. The package on offer to the successful candidate includes the option of private health care, an attractive pension plan and 25 days annual leave initially rising to a maximum of 27 days.
