The job of a Project Manager is essential in most industries yet many people are unsure of what the job entails. Project Managers have diverse and plentiful responsibilities. Our Project Managers are on the cutting edge of acute and preventative medicine, working to develop anti-infectives (including antibiotics, antivirals, and treatments for parasitic and fungal infections) as well as preventing some of the diseases responsible for significant numbers of deaths globally through the development and use of new vaccines.
ICON PMs are contributing to developing vaccines to prevent a multitude of diseases, including COVID-19, Ebola, epidemic flu (H1N1, H5N1), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Zika, anthrax, plague, shigella, HSV, and many others. Our team supports vaccines for unique and relatively rare indications as well, including Dengue fever, Chikungunya, Yellow fever, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
In the role of Project Manager, you will lead a cross-functional team with functional managers responsible for Clinical, Data Management, Medical support, Biostatistics, and a multitude of activities for which ICON is contracted. Each functional lead will be responsible for their specific area, with you owning overall accountability for the project. This collaborative team will agree and implement the project under your direction but in conjunction with a comprehensive operational plan that will be developed. You may work across the world, conducting studies with sites located in unique environments, including remote jungles in the tropics, newly established centres at varying locales in Sub-Saharan Africa, and islands where research has never been performed before.
In a project management job, you will be challenged, but also have the reward of successfully bringing treatment and prevention options to parts of the world where they haven’t been available in the past.

Our Project Managers address a broad range of cancer indications, be they hematological malignancies or solid tumors from first in human to registrational studies. Clinical trials with complex adaptive designs are at the center of what we do. Oncology is the largest single therapy area within the ICON organization accounting for one third of the overall portfolio.

In the role of PM, you will lead a cross-functional team with functional managers responsible for Clinical, Data Management, Medical support, Biostatistics, ICON Medical Imaging, ICON Laboratories and a multitude of activities for which ICON is contracted. Each functional lead will be responsible for their specific area, with you owning overall accountability for the project. Your projects may be global, and you will be challenged to work in many different types of hospitals from large academic centres to community facilities. You will be able to leverage ICON’s expertise in promoting patient centricity and patient diversity.
Most of us have been touched directly or indirectly by cancer with an expectation that over a lifetime one in two people will become ill with this disease. Research has improved survival in many cancer indications significantly.
Your contribution will further advance our progress for even longer survival in more cancer indications, with fewer debilitating treatment side effects.
