I started to learn about clinical SAS programming purely out of curiosity and never thought I’d turn it into a career but I’m now an Assistant SAS programmer with ICON and have been since May 2013. I have a Masters in Pharmacology from University of Hertfordshire in the UK and I was brought into ICON during a recruitment drive as a Trainee Assistant SAS Programmer.
The best thing about my role is the fact that it’s never boring, there are always opportunities to learn and there’s a great work culture. There is clarity in terms of progression prospects and employees are always kept well informed of goals and metrics. I like the insight into the business which this gives me.
My team are approachable, friendly and there’s always a fun atmosphere in the office which helps during any stressful periods. I consider learning to be an on-going, voluntary and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge so I’ve ensured that I’m involved in the continuous learning programme started in ICON India so I can take my technical abilities to the next level. I find oncology and immunology studies fascinating and I’m really looking forward to becoming an expert in the end to end process of drug development.
