The epidemiology team works on a range of disease areas and study designs. We undertake studies to characterize treatment patterns, disease natural history, burden of illness, disease transmission, relative efficacy, real-world effectiveness and safety, and benefit-risk.  We use a variety of study designs to obtain these estimates, including prospective and retrospective data collection; analysis of clinical and administrative databases; and systematic literature review.

ICON plc. is a leading global CRO with over 13,000 employees and offices in 40 countries.  We pride ourselves on advancing the science/consultancy interface; we have a strong reputation and publication record for observational, interventional and modelling studies in a wide variety of clinical areas and where appropriate we seek to increase the credibility of our work through peer-reviewed publication.

The Epidemiologist will project manage study sites, provide statistical and methodological expertise relating to the design and conduct of studies, will perform the analyses, data collection material and will contribute to reporting and interpreting the findings.

  • Relevant experience working on observational studies in a related environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills including written and verbal communication
  • Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task efficiently
  • Proficient in the use of R and/or SAS
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal skills

This role will require an individual who is able to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and rapidly absorb information on different disease areas.

  • Relevant work experience
  • A strong desire to learn and gain a deep understanding of the work of the department
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexibility and a willingness to respond to the needs of the department
  • An interest in health care decision making.

The following would be beneficial, but are not essential:

  • Proficient in Bayesian statistics
  • Familiar with SQL, Stata, WinBUGS

ICON is committed to supporting the growth and development of the epidemiology team.  The individual recruited for this role will have the opportunity to attend courses to further their skills in applicable research methods, and to develop their knowledge in the exciting and developing epidemiology arena.
