At ICON, we have an incredible opportunity for an expert Data Science, Machine Learning & AI Leader to join our newly created Innovation and Informatics team.
The Role
As Data Science, Machine Learning & AI leader, you will be responsible for leading the identification of areas to apply Machine Learning / AI to drive improvements in how we execute clinical trials. You will be the ICON subject matter expert for Machine Learning / AI and have the brief of driving the adoption of Machine Learning / AI innovations and opportunities across our organisation.
- As part of the Innovation & Informatics leadership team you must develop ICON's consolidated innovation roadmap to deliver 'clinical trial of the future'.
- Provide subject matter expertise in Data Science, Machine Learning & AI in clinical trials and/or technology and opportunities for applying innovation
- Work to identify innovative opportunities that can drive meaningful and beneficial change in our ICON business through process or technology.
- Drive innovative change in the organisation through identification of and removal of potential obstacles
- Work as part of the Innovation & Informatics leadership team to lead the screening, review and evaluation of innovation ideas.
- Support the Innovation & Informatics Solutions team to develop all approved innovation initiatives through design, prototyping and production.
- Work with the Innovation & Informatics team to identify the appropriate technical, commercial and business resources to pilot innovation initiatives.
- Lead periodic technical and commercial evaluation of innovation projects.
- Provide subject matter expertise when ICON Innovation & Informatics is interacting with relevant third parties involved in the funding and development of relevant innovation initiatives.
- Provide subject matter expertise for ICON's relationship with 3rd party innovation partners (academia, industry initiatives, etc.).
- Participate as a subject matter expert in the process to transfer approved projects from innovation centre into the business.
- As part of the Innovation & Informatics team you will promote a culture of innovation. Continuously seek opportunities for improvement within clinical trials.
- Be an innovation champion to ensure that innovation is in line with business and IT objectives.
- Facilitate and support the innovation components of business development initiatives as required.
- Work with the Innovation & Informatics team to establish and deliver the Innovation & Informatics strategy.
- Work with business and IT stakeholders to evaluate complex situations accurately and identify viable solutions that create successful outcomes for the customer.
- Keep up to date on industry and technology best practices and trends.

What you need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or Engineering or equivalent work experience required
- Experience working within the Pharma/ CRO sector is essential for this role
- Appropriate awareness and natural curiosity of emergent technologies (mobile, devices, big data etc.).
- Proven ability to analyse and understand complex (preferably clinical trial) data for the creation of business value.
- Ability to articulate effectively to audience of different backgrounds (commercial, technical).
- Proven track record in delivery of business needs using out-sourced and in-sourced global business models.
- Proven ability to participate in the successful delivery of large scale programmes of IT change on time and within budget.
- Possess process improvement experience with a focus on continued streamlining of processes.
- Possess customer focused background and display commercial awareness.
- Ability to identify competitive and technology usage trends, to understand their implications and to react accordingly.
- Ability to embrace new and innovative technologies for the benefit of the organisation.
- Ability to present strategies and change initiatives (to technical or non-technical audiences) to secure approval and funding.
- Possess strong interpersonal, relationship management, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess strong analytical capability to identify essential issues in complex technical and business problems.
- Strong ability to establish strong internal and external relationships to facilitate the achievement of strategic and operational objectives.
- Highly self-motivated and able to work effectively with different divisions and levels.
