Head of Group Internal Audit
Location: Dublin
ICON plc, a leading global Contract Research Organisation (headquartered in Dublin) employing approximately 14,000 employees across 80 offices in 38 countries, seeks a highly motivated Head of Group Internal Audit to join its Finance Department.
As Head of Internal Audit, you will lead a professional and experienced Internal Audit Team focused on making an impact globally and supporting ICON’s mission – to help its clients accelerate the development of drugs and medical devices that save patient lives and improve their quality of life.
The Role:
Reporting to ICON’s Chief Financial Officer (based in Dublin), you will join a fast paced and dynamic internal audit team. You will be Responsible for the establishment and delivery of an Internal Control and Risk Management framework of asset protection policies, procedures, monitoring and reporting to assure the integrity of all financial and operational metrics and to ensure regulatory compliance.
Day to day responsibilities will include:
- Review, maintain and develop policies and procedures. Ensuring consistency with ‘best practice’ in Internal Audit.
- Ensure that Internal Audit Policies are rolled out throughout the regions; that a rolling programme of information, education, awareness and providing training where necessary.
- Ensure that external Auditors are adequately consulted on emerging Policy issues.
- Build Procedures to evaluate and identify categories of risk.
- Strategically deliver the optimum asset protection assurance consistent with effectiveness, efficiency and cost.
- Consulting with peers in other international jurisdictions and where necessary with the Audit Committee of the Board.
- Plan, lead and perform risk based internal audit assignments across ICON's Divisions globally.
- Consistently evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and compliance, relating to risks across all aspects of ICON.
- Lead the Internal Audit function to ‘Centre of Excellence’ standards.
- Define requirements for management information that underpin the effective monitoring of internal audit, adjusting Audit Programmes as and when necessary.
- Play an active role in ensuring any potential Operational Risk issues and matters, are monitored and communicated effectively.
- Provide a high level review of the main risks that ICON faces.
- Co-ordinate & deliver quality audit reports containing realistic recommendations which have been agreed with management ensuring they are achievable and cost effective and contribute to the business.
- Facilitate the Audit Committee in regard to its annual report obligations and Directors’ Compliance Statement.
- Lead and handle a high preforming team and ensure that the function is equipped with the requisite talent to enable it to grow and deliver on all expectations.
- Motivate, coach and develop the team to excel in role and advance professionally.
- Handle external resources and where appropriate deal with third party service providers.
Experience requirements:
- Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA, CPA
- At least 10 years PQE with 5 + year at a senior level
- Global internal audit experience in a Plc environment, with a preference for exposure to US markets;
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors
- Degree in business or finance and accounting
