Based in our Global HQ in Leopardstown, this is a phenomenal opportunity to join one of Ireland’s largest legal teams – recognised by The Legal 500 as one of Ireland’s best in-house legal teams in 2018.
 
As Legal Counsel, you will join a professional and expert in-house legal team focused on making an impact globally and supporting ICON’s mission – to help its clients accelerate the development of drugs and medical devices that save patient lives and improve their quality of life.
 
The Role
 
You will be part of a global legal team supporting ICON’s global operations – both internally as a business partner, and externally with blue-chip pharmaceutical and biotech clients.
 
The role will report to a Legal Director within ICON and will suit a candidate passionate about engaging on a broad portfolio of legal issues.
 
You will act as a trusted advisor for ICON’s Functional Services business line, which provides large scale strategic resourcing solutions to our pharmaceutical clients. You will take a lead role in the negotiation of large scale client contracts as well as providing legal support on other operational matters for this business.
 
The role will also support the legal team on corporate projects and transactions, as well assisting in advising ICON with regard to its property portfolio worldwide.
 
Role responsibilities include:
  • Review, draft and negotiate a range of commercial contracts on ICON’s behalf such as confidentiality agreements, service agreements and consultancy agreements.
  • Advise management and internal operations teams on all aspects of ICON’s global strategic resourcing business.
  • Support the management of contract disputes and investigations which may arise from time to time.
  • Collaborate with ICON’s Real Estate and Facilities Team to advise on global property matters.
  • Maintain and revise standard contract template library and process documents for contract negotiation.
  • Craft and apply fall-back for the negotiation of contracts.
  • Advise non-legal staff on contract language and negotiations, as well as requests outside of established negotiation parameters.
Experience & Knowledge Requirements:
  • Commercial contract or corporate transaction negotiation and drafting experience working in-house or for a top tier law firm preferred.
  • Experience in advising on employment and property law considerations will be an advantage but not essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Large law firm or corporate plc or pharmaceutical/CRO/biotech industry experience is a plus.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work and prioritise effectively.
  • Ambition to progress to management role within ICON legal team over time.
  • Solutions focussed with strong work ethic.
  • Great teammate and relationship builder with excellent interpersonal, communication, diplomacy, organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to up skill in areas outside core competencies.
Education Requirements:
  • LLB or equivalent law degree.
  • 1 -4 years PQE
