ICON plc is seeking a highly motivated, commercial lawyer to join our procurement legal team, at Global HQ in Leopardstown, Dublin 18. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading multinational headquartered in Ireland and to be part of a large, experienced in-house legal department supporting the negotiation of commercial contracts with some of ICON's key vendors.

The Role

As a Legal Counsel your primary focus will be to provide legal support and guidance as a key business partner to ICON's Procurement Vendor Management team. Responsibilities will include:

• Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts on ICON's behalf such as, master supply of service agreements, bespoke contracts for vendor services, related data protection and ancillary agreements and confidentiality agreements.
• Driving execution of these agreements and various legal projects in an efficient manner, partnering with internal stakeholders for input and support in such projects.
• Managing and prioritizing workload in relation to timelines outlined in the Vendor Contracting Portal.
• Advising on corporate and compliance issues, disputes and any other legal matters that arise in the day to day operation of the business.
• Setting the standard for professional service at ICON, and delivering best practice in respect of risk management and service delivery for an in-house legal function.
• Identifying inefficiencies in day-to-day operations and delivering on recommendations for process improvements.
• Engaging and liaising with external counsel (managing and minimizing costs to the extent possible).
• Undertaking other reasonably related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

What you need

• Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 1-2 years PQE with commercial contracts experience, preferably in an in-house role within the Pharmaceutical/CRO/Biotech/Medical Device industry or a multi-national organization, or in a leading commercial law firm;
• Ability to independently evaluate complex legal concepts/issues and to provide concise commercially focused actionable solutions in simple language to the business.
• Proven team player with demonstrated leadership, analytical and consultation skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly assess potential for risk and opportunity.
• An ability to work across varying levels of seniority.
• Strong interpersonal, organization and time management skills.
• Strong influencing style, articulate and confident.
• Self-starter with the ability to work under their own initiative with a very strong work ethic.
• Excellent attention to detail with excellent drafting skills.
• Demonstrate ability to work under pressure and/or tight timelines in a fluid/fast-paced, highly collaborative, team environment.
• Superior English written and oral communication skills.
