Legal Associate

Location: Madrid

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and hardworking Legal Associate to join ICON’s highly professional and experienced in-house legal department to support the negotiation and execution of contracts on a global basis.

The Role

The successful applicant will be part of a global legal team that supports the negotiation of clinical trial contracts with healthcare institutions and healthcare professional across the world. You will provide legal support to ICONs clinical operations and Study Start Up teams in relation to all legal aspects of the setup of new global clinical trial studies.

Role responsibilities include:

Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts on ICON’s behalf such as confidentiality agreements, clinical study service agreements, ancillary service agreements and consultancy agreements.
Create and apply fall-back to ICON standard contract templates for the negotiation of contracts.
Maintain and update standard template commercial agreements.
Assist senior lawyers in managing negotiations, disputes & investigations across the regions in a diverse range of subjects.
Lead and manage various administrative tasks such as power of attorney renewals, amendments to existing agreements, letters of termination etc.
Support the legal team in maintaining database of instructions and advising on appropriate contract language.
Providing training to clinical staff on key aspects of ICON’s commercial contracts.
Advise non-legal staff on contract language and negotiations, requests outside of established negotiation parameters, and all other pertinent information toward the execution of contract-related documents for a given clinical study.

Experience & Knowledge Requirements:

Experienced Legal Associate with significant commercial contract negotiation and drafting experience working in-house or for a law firm.
Fluent English.
Contract law experience.
Excellent attention to detail.
Large law firm or corporate plc or pharmaceutical/CRO/biotech industry experience, a plus but not necessary.
Self-starter, who can work independently and make sound decisions when under pressure.
Ability to manage a high volume of work.
Solutions focused with a strong work ethic.
Possess strong negotiation, diplomacy and excellent organizational ability.
Team player and relationship builder with strong intrapersonal, communication, organization and time management skills.

Education Requirements:

LLB or equivalent law degree or legal diploma preferred.
Third level degree in other disciplines considered with suitable contract negotiation experience.
