Talent Acquisition Specialist Marius Burger reveals why recruiting for ICON helps in creating life-changing products.
Recruiting the right people is all about finding the right fit. ICON is a global organisation with one common goal, but each team has their own ways of working. It’s those unique cultures which we’re looking to find the perfect match for.
This is one of the many lessons I’ve learned from recruiting across IT and media in the UK, mainland Europe and the US. Each market I’ve encountered has required a different approach to attracting talent. There’s no such thing as a universal culture, with fascinating differences in mannerisms, aspirations and motivations which you need to consider throughout the process.
ICON values the individual personalities of the people we recruit, not just the skills they can bring to a specific role. This is a claim many companies make, but our acquisition programme puts a heavy emphasis on finding out what makes people tick, so we know they can become an integral part of our team.
The ‘Personal Interest’ section on your CV isn’t just there to fill an empty space, it’s something we look at to get a snapshot of who you are, and how well you’ll integrate with your colleagues.
Offering the opportunity to work for a company that plays an active role in changing people’s lives for the better is a big appeal to applicants. It’s certainly one of the reasons why I joined the company.
If we hire the right people in the right positions, it results in groundbreaking drugs being developed and brought to market. Knowing the role you have to play in this keeps you stimulated and energised every day.
Training and development is another area we like to emphasise when talking to candidates. It’s something that’s available to everybody, bringing clinical, HR, finance, legal and every other operation into one working community through our iLearn online learning platform.
People don’t want to join organisations that are stagnant. ICON offers a progressive and vibrant environment, with excellent career prospects and a real sense of teamwork.
I make an effort to catch up with new recruits once they’ve settled in at ICON, and the most common feedback is about the supportiveness of their colleagues, from entry level staff right through to senior employees.
It’s what makes the company a great choice to join for anybody.
