Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB) are fundamental to our culture and values at ICON.

Our people are core to our ability to deliver our services and drive better patient outcomes. We acknowledge and celebrate our differences in gender, ethnicity, culture, and abilities. As a values-driven organisation, respect for diverse points of view is foundational to how we interact with each other as well as with customers, patients, and suppliers.

At ICON, one of our core values is Inclusion. Each year we host a global event called Wake Up to Culture. This is a time for us to come together as an organization and celebrate our people and our values. Our Ambitions

ICON’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging practices and programs are viewed through the lens of our four DIB ambitions. Our Patients, Our People, Our Partners, and our community.


ICON’s Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Steering Committee brings together individuals from across ICON to develop and execute work streams under each of the four ambitions, with a central team overseeing the overarching efforts.



ICON's Community Groups

ICON’s community groups are another way in which we promote diversity, inclusion and belonging by bringing together employees with common identities and interests.


SPACE – Supporting Parents & Carers Everywhere

The SPACE community group recognises that our colleagues at ICON may need to step-out and step-in at different life stages in their careers. We are committed to creating a workplace were stepping out for a period is wholly accepted and not career limiting, and where stepping back is an organic, positive process.

In 2022 the SPACE community group was happy to introduce the Buddy Program where parents and carers looking for support are paired with those that have been through similar experiences. The aim of this program is to help colleagues expand their network at ICON and create connections within our community.

NOW – Networking Organisation for Women

NOW is the Networking Organisation for Women, a community group that supports women across ICON in their careers. NOW is committed to inspiring and connecting current and potential leaders through an inclusive environment of targeted initiatives and supportive mentorship. We achieve this by using our network to mentor, connect, educate, and raise awareness amongst our community members and our allies and supporters across ICON.

NOW has been a proud supporter of the Google initiative #IamRemarkable, delivering workshops to women and underrepresented communities throughout the organisation, empowering them to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond.

EmbRACE – Ethnicity & Race

EmbRACE is a community group supporting all race and ethnic backgrounds in creating an inclusive workplace culture. Our ambition is to build a culture that is inclusive, collaborative, and accountable, supporting all our people and removing barriers that prevent them from doing their best work and being their true selves at ICON.

It is about starting conversation on sensitive issues that may seem uncomfortable at first but will drive positive change for all of us. Encouraging employees to “OWN” their responsibility to promote an equitable and safe work environment for all.

EmbRACE has supported employees in their development through the creation of a learning journey that provides simple actions to build knowledge on the topic of race and ethnicity, and through hosting several impactful panel events throughout the year. 

DAWN – Disability Awareness Network

DAWN stands for Disability Awareness Network (DAWN). It is a community group committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone is treated with respect and dignity and a sense of belonging irrespective of any visible or hidden disabilities.

We aim to “Meet you where you are,” providing a supportive working environment where everyone feels physically and psychologically safe. We will achieve this by acknowledging that disabilities are a diverse and sensitive topic; we believe awareness is the spark and stepping-stone to success.

PRIDE – Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community

Pride is a community group for our LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies. We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace, where our colleagues can feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work, no matter what country or region they are based in. ICON will not tolerate discrimination of any kind. We are dedicated to ensuring that no matter where you are based, our offices are a safe space where you are welcomed, respected, and valued.

PRIDE has championed impactful educational opportunities, such as the development of a PRIDE learning journey, a month of celebration and raising awareness in recognition of PRIDE month in June, and recognition of World Aids Day in December.
