US Veteran Community
SERVE - Supporting & Encouraging Resilient Veterans Everywhere
SERVE is ICON’s US Veteran Employee Resource Group, which aims to create a supportive community where veterans, active-duty service members, their families and allies can come together to share experiences, provide mutual support, and foster professional growth.
Our mission is to cultivate a nurturing community and will serve as a platform for networking, collaboration, mentorship, and advocacy among ICON service members while raising awareness on the distinctive challenges and experiences faced by veterans.
Veteran Community - United States
At ICON Plc, we are committed to hiring and developing the careers of those within the military community whether you are a veteran, reservist, or active-duty service member. The military values of leadership, loyalty, integrity, and commitment to excellence translate directly to impactful work within our company. Here at ICON, you can continue making a positive difference, contributing to the well-being of patients worldwide. Your honed skills and dedication can be put to meaningful use in diverse roles across ICON.
My functional manager and mentors have been phenomenal helping me adjust to the clinical research industry. The Veterans Leadership Transition Program (VLTP) that ICON developed has made my transition after 20 years in the United States Marine Corps into corporate life an easy and fun process. This terrific group of veterans have been instrumental in completing my first year. The comradery and acceptance has made me feel right at home, The VLTP has helped me capitalize on my strengths and and develop any gaps in my knowledge.
Stephen Mitchell
Associate Project Manager
The culture at ICON and on my team is close-knit; it’s fun but retains a professional atmosphere. The work-life balance is relieving. I’m able to work full time, go to school full time, be a husband, a father, serve in the military, and still have some time for hobbies. The flexibility at ICON helps me balance my life’s busy schedule with minimal stress.
Connor
Laboratory Assistant
The 2 most important things to service members are our people and mission priorities. Whether you served aboard a ship or on the ground, you must take care of your troops personally and professionally to ensure they can remain on task to complete the mission. When Leaders serve, people perform. This has positively influenced my work environment and culture at ICON in my role as a Project Manager.
Antonio
Project Manager
I enlisted in the military to see the world, so I volunteered for everything, even for deployments. Like clinical trials, deployments change in a moment’s notice. Through this, I gained a skill of flexibility to use with my role as a Project Manager and learned to work globally before it was popular.
Josette
Project Manager
The past few years while serving on active duty with the Air Force, I basically lived out of my suitcase because I was never home. I wanted a position in the civilian world that would provide a better work life balance and flexibility in my schedule. At ICON the transition from the military to the civilian world made me a bit nervous, but the Veteran Leadership Transition Program (VLTP) has made this transition easy. The amount of support and mentoring that I have received through the VLTP has been fantastic.
Jess Neff
Associate Project Manager
I enjoy the fact that we get to work on projects that will eventually help people that are suffering. It makes it easier to go to work everyday when you are working on something that helps people. After leaving the military I was excited to find another job where the work I would be doing would actually make a difference. It is also great to work for a company that understands what my previous time in the military brings to the table as an Associate Project Manager to start with and now a Project Manager.
Richard Wells
Project Manager
Being in the military helped prepare me for my civilian career at ICON in many ways. I have a built in a sense of urgency which is important for clinical research because we have hard deadlines for almost everything. The military also prepared me with medical experience giving me many of the skills I need for the Medical Research Associate role. Also, my communication skills and level headedness from my military experience make high stress assessment rounds here easier and flow smoother. Not everything goes completely to plan in any kind of research and the Army has taught me to stay calm in those circumstances and that always makes it easier to think clearly and fix the situation at hand.
Sarah
Medical Research Associate
As a transitioning veteran, I now have the opportunity to give back what was given to me; I provide value and work towards something larger than myself. ICON has provided an environment that allows me to be successful personally and professionally. My teams are fantastic; collaborative, gritty, and dedicated. I have leaders that care about our team and we all understand the goal of bringing life changing drugs to those who need them most.

Veteran Leadership Transition Program - United States
ICON's US Veteran Leadership Transition Program (VLTP) is designed to recruit those who have served in the armed forces, providing the training and development to ultimately transition them into Project Management roles at ICON Biotech Solutions.
The program is built on mentorship and hands-on training, which provides qualified candidates the skills and knowledge necessary for a smooth and confident transition from a military career to a successful and fulfilling second career at ICON Biotech Solutions. As a result of the comprehensive VLTP-US training, even those without a background in clinical research will be equipped with the knowledge and ability to succeed in this unique industry.
Participants undergo intensive training over the course of 18 to 24 months, under the guidance of mentors from different levels within the organisation. This builds a solid foundation and progressively works up to more complex subjects and tasks. By program’s end, participants will have gained competency in more than 30 project management areas of responsibility.
