Growing with ICON: Christina’s Journey in Clinical Operations and Quality Leadership

At ICON, we are proud to showcase the incredible journeys of our colleagues who make a real impact on patients’ lives every day. Meet Christina Mathiasz, Clinical Operations Manager and Quality Compliance Lead, based in Melbourne, Australia. Christina has been with ICON Strategic Solutions for 7 years and continues to thrive in a role that combines leadership, quality, and innovation.

Leading with Purpose

Christina manages a team of Clinical Research Associates (CRAs) across Australia within one of our sponsor embedded programs. Alongside her leadership responsibilities, she provides cross-regional operational support in her quality role, helping to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and driving innovation within the Global Site Operations team.

Her passion for mentoring and developing talent stems from her own journey at ICON. “I was inspired to pursue this role by the exceptional managers I had as a CRA. Their leadership motivated me to lead and support my own team. I take pride in mentoring new CRAs and contributing to high-quality deliverables for ICON’s clients.”

Innovation in Action

Over the last 2 years, Christina has played a pivotal role in creating and implementing a 'Line Manager Dashboard tool', designed to streamline routine activities and enhance oversight across the Global Site Operations team. The success of this tool not only reduced time spent on routine tasks but also strengthened quality oversight, so much so that ICON’s client began replicating the tool within their own internal reporting systems.“I am proud to have contributed to something that makes a meaningful difference for both ICON and our clients.” she shares.

Life at ICON

Christina embodies ICON’s value of Integrity, which she sees as taking full accountability, maintaining transparency, and consistently delivering work of the highest standard. These principles guide her leadership and ensure that her team and clients can rely on her.

When asked what keeps her at ICON, Christina is quick to highlight the supportive culture and focus on professional development. “The outstanding support from my managers, who consistently prioritise my growth, and ICON’s commitment to work-life balance are the key reasons I’ve stayed.”

Life Beyond Work

Outside of ICON, Christina enjoys watching Australian Rules Football, playing netball, travelling the world to discover new cuisines, and spending time with her partner and English Staffy.

Christina’s story is just one example of the opportunities at ICON to grow, innovate, and make a difference. Whether you’re starting as a CRA or stepping into leadership, ICON provides the tools, mentorship, and culture to help you succeed.
