Mapi Research Trust is currently hiring a Software Engineer to join our Technology Team.
Mapi Research Trust is an independent not-for-profit organization specialized in Clinical Outcome Assessment (COA) and Digital Health Technology (DHT) information and is part of the Commercialization and Outcomes group of ICON. https://mapi-trust.org/
We are seeking a Software Engineer at Expert Technical Lead level to join our Technology Team. This position combines hands-on technical development with technical leadership responsibilities, serving as the primary technical point of contact for both internal team coordination and external vendor relationships.
You will join our Technology Team composed of 3 Product Owners and 2 Software Engineers, reporting directly to the Tech Team Manager.
As Technical Lead, you will provide technical guidance to the engineering team and serve as the primary technical liaison with our external technology vendors and partners, while remaining an active contributor to development work.
Overview
As a software engineer and Technical Lead, you will split your time between hands-on technical development, technical leadership activities, and DevOps/Deployment. You will guide technical decisions, coordinate with external vendors, provide technical mentorship to team members, and ensure architectural consistency across projects. This role requires both strong technical skills in full-stack development and the ability to lead technical discussions and vendor relationships.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
• Serve as Technical Lead for the Technology Team, providing technical guidance and direction
• Act as primary technical point of contact with external vendors and technology partners
• Lead technical discussions, architecture decisions, and technology selection
• Coordinate technical activities between internal team members and external partners
• Review code and provide technical mentorship to other engineers
• Ensure technical consistency and best practices across projects
• Participate in technical planning and sprint planning activities
• Participate in workshops or scoping study meetings as technical referent/expert
• Ability to drive technical alignment across multiple interconnected applications and repositories
Application Development
• Application Familiarization: Gain in-depth understanding of web applications developed with Symfony and PHP, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align front-end and back-end functionalities
• Symfony and PHP Development: Develop and maintain efficient server-side logic using Symfony and PHP; ensure seamless integration with front-end services
• Angular Implementation: Implement responsive and user-friendly interfaces using Angular; collaborate with UI/UX designers for optimal user experience
• Database Integration: Integrate back-end services with MongoDB and MySQL databases; optimize database queries for performance and reliability
• API Development: Create and maintain APIs for seamless communication between front-end and back-end components; define clear API specifications
• Message Queue Integration: Work with RabbitMQ for asynchronous processing and event-driven architecture within applications
• Security Measures: Implement and adhere to security best practices in development
• Testing and Debugging: Conduct thorough testing of components, identifying and resolving issues
• Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for code, architecture, and integration points; maintain documentation for future maintenance and onboarding
• Performance Optimization: Collaborate with the team to optimize data retrieval, processing, and rendering; identify improvements to enhance application scalability
• Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies; share knowledge with the team
• Advanced expertise in Elasticsearch: index optimization, analyzers, nested structures, large-scale datasets
DevOps & Deployment
• Develop and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for continuous integration and deployment
• Manage application deployment processes and release cycles
• Configure and maintain Nginx web server for optimal performance and security
• Monitor application performance and troubleshoot infrastructure issues
• Collaborate with IT/infrastructure teams on environment management
• Automate deployment and operational tasks
• Good knowledge of Linux system administration
• Strong experience with Docker-based multi-service environments
What you will need
• Proven experience as a Senior Full Stack Developer working with Symfony, PHP, Angular, MongoDB, MySQL, and API development
• Solid understanding of security best practices in both front-end and back-end development
• Strong knowledge of web application architecture and design patterns
• Experience with version control systems (Git/GitLab)
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• Proficiency with Nginx configuration and web server management
• Familiarity with RabbitMQ and Supervisorctl in application contexts
• Demonstrated experience in technical leadership or lead developer roles
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with vendors, stakeholders, and team members
• Experience managing vendor relationships and external technical collaborations
• Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to other developers
• Effective communication in English
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
