The Role:
We are currently recruiting for a Legal Counsel to join our global legal team.
The successful applicant will form part of a dynamic legal team managing risk and providing strategic commercial and legal advice to key business stakeholders (in particular ICON’s Medical Device and Diagnostic Research, Laboratory and Late Phase/Consultative Commercialization business units). The successful applicant will support of ICON’s global business legal needs in the areas of contract, corporate, employment, IP/IT, data protection, litigation and regulatory/compliance. This role will report to Senior Director, Legal Counsel within legal and will be based in our Dublin HQ.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of Ireland’s largest in-house legal teams.
Responsibilities/Duties include:
- Review, draft and negotiate a wide range of general client and vendor commercial contracts such as; confidentiality agreements, services agreements, material transfer agreements, agency agreements, distribution agreements, and software license agreements.
- Advise on corporate, employment, IP/IT, data protection, litigation, compliance and any other legal matters that arise in the day to day operation of the business.
- Manage various legal projects to completion in an efficient and effective manner and liaise with internal stakeholders in the business for input and support in such projects.
- Engage and liaise with external counsel (managing and minimizing costs to the extent possible).
- Identify inefficiencies in day-to-day operations and make recommendations for process improvements.
- Undertake other reasonably related duties (including administrative tasks) as may be assigned from time to time.

- LLB, LLM or equivalent law degree preferred (third level degrees in other disciplines will be considered if coupled with suitable and strong contract negotiation experience).
- Legal Qualification (admitted to practice Law) with proven experience (1 - 3 years’ post-qualification) in commercial contract negotiations preferably in the Pharmaceutical/CRO/Biotech/Medical Device industry.
- Previous experience in commercial law and/or commercial contracts essential (in a top tier commercial law firm or a leading multinational) with litigation experience also a positive.
- Ability to independently evaluate complex legal concepts/issues, assess risk and provide commercially-focused pragmatic solutions in simple language on all communication mediums to the business.
- Team player and relationship builder with strong intrapersonal, communication, organization and time management skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work on their own initiative under tight timelines in a fast paced environment.
- Positive attitude with a strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail.
- Experience in improving efficiencies in a legal function.
- Superior English written and oral communication skills.
