Bio
Justyna joined the ICON Graduate Programme at University College Dublin in September 2014. She now works as an entry level CRA within ICON and answers some questions about her work and role.
What’s your favourite thing about working for ICON?
It’s really hard to point out just one thing… I definitely enjoy working with other ICON employees. People here have very diverse backgrounds, are extremely well qualified, ambitious but at the same time very friendly, always willing to help and support each other. This creates a unique environment in which I feel challenged and also can learn a lot from others.
What’s your favourite thing about the graduate programme?
It was great to learn about clinical research from so many different perspectives. Classes at the university provided required theoretical background. We saw how the theory is put into practice during the time spent in a hospital setting where we worked with research personnel. This allowed us to see first-hand how trials are performed and understand many tacit nuances through conversations with the staff. We were also introduced to the commercial side of performing research during the ICON week: filled with practical exercises and many informal conversations.
What’s an average day at work for you?
There really is no average day. Before joining ICON I was afraid every day will be the same, filled with many daunting processes. Fortunately it proved the exact opposite. Every day provides a unique opportunity to interact with investigators, research nurses, coordinators and the ICON team.
What’s been your biggest achievement so far?
My biggest achievement was promotion after 6 months of work at ICON. I started as a CTA (Clinical Trial Assistant) and currently I’m working as an entry level CRA (Clinical Research Associate). Hard work paid off and it’s great I can further develop my career by working on project matching my skills and interests.
Any hints and tips for candidates?
