International Day of Families 2024

ICON plc recently celebrated the International Day of Families on May 15th, creating an event that truly captured the spirit of this day. Working with the SPACE (Supporting Parents and Carers Everywhere) Employee Group, ICON honored the many different types of families within its organization, showing its commitment to including everyone.

A main part of the event was a talk by Sue Atkins, a well-known parenting expert, speaker, and author. Atkins, who has a lot of experience helping families with modern challenges, gave a helpful talk called "Children and Technology." She provided ICON employees with practical tips for raising children in today's digital world, offering much-needed advice on managing screen time, a common concern for many parents.

ICON also organized a worldwide activity that beautifully showed the event's message. Employees from all over were asked to share pictures of their families' hands. This simple but meaningful action showed the wide variety of families within the company. Colleagues from many different cultures and backgrounds eagerly shared their photos, clearly showing ICON's diversity.

Local offices also added their own special events. For example, the Mexico City office held both online and in-person activities. Online, they shared messages about the importance and variety of families, then used an interactive tool called Mentimeter where employees shared what family means to them. They also made a group photo using pictures of employees' loved ones. In the office, they did similar things, with staff writing their thoughts about family on a large board. They even gave out cookies with names like "father," "mother," "grandfather" on them, making the event fun and sweet. The day ended with a photo session where employees posed with a special poster for the celebration.

This memorable event reminded everyone how important it is to welcome and include all types of people in the workplace. By honoring and celebrating the many different family structures, ICON creates a culture where everyone feels accepted and supported.

Supporting Parents and Carers Everywhere

At ICON, we acknowledge that many people take care of their older parents, which is another type of family care. This fits perfectly with the SPACE Employee Group's mission to support all kinds of caregiving. By recognizing these different parts of family life, ICON shows its commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels seen, supported, and valued.

The company sincerely thanks Sue Atkins for sharing her knowledge, and the SPACE Employee Group for their strong commitment to supporting parents and carers worldwide. This celebration also shows how connected the ICON community is, recognizing that families often go beyond just parents and children.

Through thoughtful events like this, ICON continues to build a workplace where diversity is not just accepted but celebrated. This ensures that every family, no matter its shape or size, is honored and cherished. This event shows ICON's belief that the many different types of families make its work community strong and beautiful.
