Laboratory Supervisor (Chemistry)

About the Laboratory Supervisor role within ICON: 

The Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for monitoring and reviewing proficiency testing, operational and department budget, laboratory quality control data, and quality control systems and corrective actions.  The Supervisor will ensure all testing is completed within current procedures and quality standards while meeting agreed upon timelines and monitoring reagents and supplies assisting in the performance of all related tasks for managing inventory.

The Laboratory Supervisor will identify the key elements of a situation and any gaps and inconsistencies in data and makes rational judgements from available information and analysis.  Actively participates in Root cause analysis investigations and process improvement initiatives.

The Laboratory Supervisor will be expected to motivate his/her team and act as a coach/mentor while sharing expertise.  Maintain a positive working environment ensuring staff motivation in particular periods of high workloads. Maintain low levels of staff turnover, actively contributing to the retention of key individuals.  Will establish good relationships internally and externally and interact with other departments, such as Project Management, Scientific Affairs, Global Validations, Quality Assurance, Client Services and Global Labs.   Also Interacts with clients and internal/external auditors.

To succeed you will need:

Background in Chemistry is required

New York State License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required

You will need a Bachelors’ degree in Medical Technology or equivalent along with a minimum of 6 year’s experience as a Medical Technologists. Be familiar with the operation of laboratory equipment with a demonstrated ability to check that equipment is functioning within its specifications and to respond appropriately to abnormalities.  Possess the knowledge of the role of audit and review in quality management, including quality control, quality assurance and the use of appropriate outcome measures.

Will have demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with good organization skills and good attention to detail and the ability to work as part of, and set the example of performance standards for a team.
