Legal Counsel - Compliance and Ethics

The Role:
 
Based in Chennai, you will become part of a global legal team supporting ICON’s global Compliance and Ethics Program and identifying risks arising from a country and industry perspective.
 
You will assist in owning the creation and expansion of compliance policies, training, and ad-hoc legal assistance in India. This is an exciting area and this job will give you the opportunity to work across the entire APAC region in time.
 
Role responsibilities include:
  • You will be involved in the development of, and oversight for ICON's Legal Compliance & Ethics program for ICON India.
  • Partnering with the business, you will act as legal compliance & ethics partner for senior India leadership team - helping to identify, evaluate and advise ICON corporate and healthcare compliance risks.
  • Assisting with all legal compliance queries and partners concerns.
  • Handling and advising on externally mandated and internally required compliance reviews and investigations.
  • Lead due diligence deep dives, assessments and /or investigations into external party non-­ compliance with ICON and our client’s compliance & ethics program requirements.
  • Providing day-to-day support to operations, legal, procurement and other third party risk management partners regarding ICON external parties based in or providing services through India.
  • Work as part of cross functional teams to develop policies and processes arising from legal and client contractual requirements.
  • Collaborating with HR, internal communications and India management to educate and promote a culture of integrity and general compliance collaboration across ICON India offices.
  • Creation and delivery of region specific training and monitoring the effectiveness of this training.
  • Support and advise on compliance audits and queries from ICON clients and external authorities.
  • Support APAC lead on the management of queries and issue customers concern from across all ICON APAC business streams and global business functions.
 
Experience & Knowledge Requirements:
  • Qualified lawyer with 3-5 years’ experience in a corporate setting.
  • Experience advising the business on all areas of legal compliance and ethics.
  • Customer focussed with excellent partner management skills.
  • Confident in taking care of and influencing senior leaders and working with non-legal colleagues to develop an ethos of integrity and compliance.
  • Experience in delivering training to non-legal colleagues.
