Paralegal / Legal Associate *LI-MB1

The Role

The successful applicant will form part of a dynamic legal team (under the direction of VP, Legal/Director, Legal/Manager, Legal) managing risk and providing strategic commercial and legal advice to key business stakeholders (in particular ICONs Medical Device, Laboratory and Consulting Service Lines). The successful applicant will support of ICONs global business legal needs in the areas of contract, corporate, employment, IP/IT, data protection, litigation and regulatory/compliance.

JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with a wide range of legal matters including corporate, employment, IP/IT, data protection, litigation, consumer law, compliance matters and any other legal matters that arise in the day to day operation of the business.
Assist in the negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts (e.g. confidentiality agreements, services agreements, material transfer agreements, agency agreements, distribution agreements, digital marketing agreements, software license agreements and support and maintenance agreements).
Manage legal projects to completion in an efficient and effective manner and liaise with internal stakeholders around the business for input and support in such projects.
Manage and prioritize workload in response to business and client requirements.
Identify inefficiencies in day-to-day operations and makes recommendations for process improvements.
Assist in managing the invoicing process for external counsel.
To undertake other reasonably related duties (including administrative tasks) as may be assigned from time to time.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

Proven experience in commercial contract negotiations preferably in the Pharmaceutical/CRO/Biotech/Medical Device industry. Previous experience in commercial law and/or commercial contracts essential (in a top tier commercial law firm or a leading multinational) with litigation experience also a positive.
Ability to independently evaluate complex legal concepts/issues and clearly communicate concise, commercially-focused advice to the business
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly assess potential for risk and opportunity;
Proven team player with demonstrated leadership, analytical and consultation skills.
Strong influencing style, articulate and confident;
Self-starter with the ability to work under their own initiative with a strong work ethic.
Excellent attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and/or tight timelines in a fluid/fast-paced, highly collaborative, team environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships across business functions;
Fluent English written and oral communication skills.
Working knowledge of PC Applications (Excel, Microsoft Word, Windows, etc.).

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

LLB, LLM or equivalent law degree preferred (third level degree in other disciplines will be considered if coupled with suitable and strong contract negotiation experience).
