Position Summary
The Medical Technologist I supports the daily operations of the Central Laboratory by performing moderate‑complexity testing in accordance with established procedures, regulatory standards, and quality expectations. This role contributes to the delivery of high‑quality, accurate, and timely laboratory results that support clinical research and patient safety. The Medical Technologist I collaborates with laboratory leadership, assists with training, and helps maintain a compliant and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Testing & Analysis
- Perform moderate‑complexity laboratory testing and technical assignments following written procedures, SOPs, and quality standards.
- Ensure test results and documentation (results, comments, QC) are entered, verified, and released accurately and in compliance with CAP, CLIA, and ICON standards.
- Report grossly abnormal or critical results to laboratory management before release.
- Maintain, operate, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratory instruments and assays as assigned.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
- Adhere to internal and external quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Document corrective actions, maintain instrument logs, and support ongoing regulatory readiness.
- Participate in proficiency testing, equipment validation, and verification of new procedures.
- Support temperature monitoring, reagent management, and proper storage practices.
Operational Support
- Contribute to meeting turnaround times outlined in client contracts.
- Maintain organized and compliant record‑keeping according to SOP and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with addressing quality issues, participating in root‑cause investigations, and responding to internal/external inquiries.
Team Collaboration & Development
- Accept direction and collaborate effectively with the laboratory management team.
- Provide mentorship or training support to Technologists, Technicians, and Lab Assistants.
- Participate in continuing education activities such as journal clubs, internal lectures, and professional development programs.
- Support general laboratory tasks to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Medical Technology, or a related laboratory science.
- ASCP certification (MLS(ASCP) or MT(ASCP)).
- 1–2 years of clinical laboratory experience, ideally in moderate‑complexity testing.
- Strong understanding of laboratory techniques, quality control principles, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow precise procedures.
Preferred
- Experience in a central lab, clinical research lab, or high‑throughput testing environment.
- Familiarity with CAP‑accredited laboratory operations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
