ICON plc, a leading Contract Research Organisation, employing approximately 13,500 employees across 97 offices in 38 countries, seeks an experienced and highly motivated privacy associate to join its Legal Department at its Leopardstown Global HQ.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and hardworking individual to join ICON’s highly professional and experienced in-house legal department to support the existing data protection team to help drive, lead and manage ICON’s Privacy & Data Protection programme under the direction of the Global Data Protection Officer.

The Role:

As Privacy Associate, you will work closely with the DPO to develop and roll-out ICON’s data protection strategy. You will also collaborate with and support internal stakeholders to drive ICON’s mission while mitigating data protection/privacy related risks along the way.

Role responsibilities include:

• Supporting the business in review of new systems/products and services using Data Protection Impact Assessments post implementation of GDPR
• Partnering with internal stakeholders to embed Privacy Impact Assessment processes in other operational activities – i.e. change management/product and service development;
• Design and delivery of privacy related training and awareness materials for all levels of staff
• Assist in the resolution of data protection issues across the business – e.g. data breaches, complaints, queries
• Assist with the review of on-going compliance and risk mitigation of third party vendors as relate to privacy and data protection
• Assist in the support of varied Data Protection & Privacy projects and initiatives to enable business development

Experience & Knowledge Requirements:

• Operational experience in the practical implementation of a Data Protection programme in a large, complex organisation
• Operational experience of working with multiple business stakeholders on GDPR programmes (or other large regulatory programmes)
• Implementing Data management workflow and best practices in projects of different natures
• Previous written/verbal engagements with Regulators/Data Protection Regulators - e.g. Office of the Data Protection Commissioner/Central Bank etc.
• Experience in change management programme desirable.
• Project management principles/experience preferred.

Education Requirements:

• LLB or equivalent law degree or legal diploma preferred.
