Senior Research Scientist – Cambridge, MA
Position Summary
As a Senior Research Scientist at ICON, you will play a key role in clinical sample testing, assay development, and data analysis within a CLIA/CAP-accredited laboratory environment. This position requires strong expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular biology techniques, and clinical NGS assay validation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform clinical sample testing, including nucleic acid isolation, nucleic acid quantification and QC, library preparation (manual/automation), data analysis, and reporting laboratory results as directed.
- Develop, optimize, and validate NGS based clinical assays.
- Author and maintain technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), validation plans/reports and workbooks.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations to internal teams and external clients.
Qualifications
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience in NGS (preferred).
- Experience in oncology, genetics, or infectious disease NGS assay development is highly desirable.
- Strong hands-on expertise in molecular biology techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory automation systems, bioinformatics tools (e.g. IGV, secondary/tertiary analysis), IVD NGS test development/validation, or programming/AI are preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
