Unlocking your Potential: The Benefits of ICON’s EPIC Internship Program

Internship programs have become a vital stepping stone for students and young professionals seeking to gain practical experience and launch their careers. Among the many programs available, ICON plc's EPIC (Entry-level Professionals in CRO (Contract Research Organization) internship program stands out as a remarkable opportunity.

This 10-week paid summer internship in North America offers a range of benefits that go beyond the typical intern experience. By learning from experienced leaders and contributing to organizational goals, EPIC interns gain valuable insights into the clinical research industry, the drug development process, and the corporate structure of a global company.

Below, we will explore the numerous advantages of how the EPIC program can shape your future career.

Why do an Internship with ICON?

Learn from Leaders

One of the standout features of ICON's EPIC program is the opportunity to learn directly from experienced leaders. Interns can network with and hear about industry topics from leaders with vast industry experience.

Competitive Industry Knowledge

EPIC interns participate in sessions specifically designed to enrich their understanding of the Pharmaceutical research industry. These sessions cover various aspects of the drug development process, from early-stage research to post-market studies, about the drug approval process and where a CRO comes in. This comprehensive knowledge empowers interns to make informed decisions about their career paths and helps them stand out as knowledgeable professionals in the field.

Exposure to Global Corporate Structure

ICON is a global company with a diverse workforce of about 40,000 employees (about twice the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden) and operations across over 40 countries. EPIC interns get a unique opportunity to experience the corporate structure of such a global organization. This exposure to various teams, departments, and functions helps the interns to develop a holistic perspective and a deeper understanding of how a large-scale organization operates.

Hands-On Experience in Various Departments

EPIC internships are available in various departments, ranging from project and trial support to technology and corporate support. This diversity enables interns to explore different areas of interest and discover their passion within the clinical research industry. Through hands-on experience, interns develop practical skills, gain industry-specific knowledge, and understand the specific challenges and opportunities each department faces.

Pathway to Full-Time Employment

A significant benefit of the EPIC internship program is the potential for intern-to-employee conversion. On average, 35% of EPIC interns at ICON secure full-time roles at the company. This conversion rate reflects the value ICON places on its interns and their contributions during the internship period. By joining the EPIC program, interns open doors to long-term career opportunities within a leading organization in the clinical research industry.

Participating in ICON's EPIC internship program provides numerous advantages for aspiring professionals in the clinical research field. Through direct interaction with Senior Leaders, comprehensive industry knowledge, exposure to a global corporate structure, and hands-on experience in various departments, interns gain invaluable skills and insights.

Moreover, the potential for intern-to-employee conversion demonstrates the program's effectiveness in nurturing talent and providing a pathway to long-term career success. If you are eager to launch your career in the clinical research industry, ICON's EPIC internship program is an exceptional opportunity to unlock your potential and make a meaningful impact.

Stay tuned for the launch of the EPIC Summer Internship recruitment each spring and take your first step towards an exciting career.

The EPIC program is currently offered in the US, Canada, and Mexico with international expansion to other countries in progress. Recruitment typically begins each year in February when opportunities are posted on ICON’s careers website to accept applications from interested students.

The typical intern candidate is a junior or senior in an undergraduate program or a student enrolled in a Master’s degree. The program runs for 10 weeks over the summer term (June-August) when students have a break between academic years.
