There are currently 55.3 million IT professionals working around the globe and because every industry relies to some extent on technology, employees with digital experience have a wealth of choice when it comes to their job hunt. With so many options why do employees like Abitha choose to work in the clinical research industry and more importantly, why do they bring their expertise to ICON? Let’s hear from Abitha why ICON is a great place to bring your IT skills.

“My journey with ICON started as an intern in information security”

Abitha joined us through one of our internship programmes which are designed to help our interns build upon their knowledge of key technology trends and support them as they understand how these are applied in a clinical research setting. We have a strong focus on staff development at ICON, so we look for candidates, like Abitha, who show potential and an eagerness to learn. Before her internship, Abitha completed a Masters in Information Security and Cyber Forensics, which teaches students about data analytics, computer security and cybercrime. She explains that these branches of knowledge have really helped her to handle the more challenging tasks at ICON.

“I adore working with my team”

It’s now been one year since Abitha joined ICON and since completing her internship she has progressed into an Information Security Associate role. In this time, Abitha has gained so much respect for what she does and how she contributes to the success of the company. In fact, every single employee at ICON plays a huge part in helping us accelerate the development of drugs and medical devices.

“Working at ICON has been a great experience for me”

To ensure we’re always moving forward we encourage our colleagues to grab more responsibility where they can and build a career they can be proud of. Abitha shares that she’s been supported to do just this at ICON and it’s given her the confidence to enhance her technical skills and think about what she wants in her career.

“I’ve had the opportunity to meet many professionals that have helped to improve my skills”

Working in our IT team is really sociable because our colleagues get to work on projects that involve most departments. This means that during her year at ICON, Abitha has worked with a number of colleagues and many of them have helped her make great progress in her career.

“ICON is a place where you can grow professionally and have a balanced life”

Abitha explains that during her time at ICON she’s always been encouraged to grow and this culture has allowed her to flourish as a professional in information security. Though learning and developing are important to all our colleagues, Abitha makes a great point that this must be balanced with a personal life. 95% of millennials agree that a work-life balance is important, and since this generation will soon comprise the majority of the modern workforce, more people like Abitha will see the benefit in working for a company that respects a work-life balance.

Build your long-term career with ICON

Abitha’s story gives a snapshot of why ICON is a great place to bring your IT expertise and we’ve been speaking to plenty more IT colleagues to find out about their career journey with us.
