How our IT Operations team help improve the lives of people every day
What does it mean to work in clinical research? For a lot of our colleagues, it’s a chance to have an impact on peoples’ lives and to make their mark on the industry. As for ICON, we’re driven by the vision to be the partner of choice in drug development. For that to happen we need talented people who share it, including a top IT Operations team who are excited to be working with the latest technologies. To give you an overview of what it’s like to work in the IT Operations team at ICON, we spoke to Balaji who has worked as an Application Support Analyst here for the last five years. Here’s his story:
“I feel how we are directly and indirectly improving the lives of people every day”
Balaji's career in clinical research began nine years ago, and in that time, he’s become increasingly aware of how he is personally having a positive impact in the industry. He came to ICON with previous experience working in clinical research and his choice to join our community was an easy one. He explains that for people working in clinical research, ICON - which has been recognised as the world's best CRO - is a dream company and one that people set their sights on from an early point in their career.
“IT Operations is the only group that works almost with every department in ICON”
Day-to-day he works on systems that get affected by issues and helping various users requesting for access, information and queries. Alongside this, Balaji will help oversee the new applications and technologies that ICON is onboarding. This means that the team of techies - as Balaji calls them - are in a really sociable position at ICON, working on projects that involve most departments.
“The best thing about working here is that as ICON grows we grow”
Balaji has been working with ICON since 2015 and during that time he’s noticed how the organisation has set the IT Operations team up for success and how it invests in each person. For him, working in the global arena which is life sciences gives him the energy and enthusiasm to contribute to a whole host of operations across ICON. And with ICON giving Balaji and his team the opportunity to work with the latest technologies - such as robotic process automation (RPA) and Cognitive Automations systems - it’s clear to him how the organisation is clearly setting out a road map to develop the team into experts.
“I feel that every bit of effort I put in has an impact”
Another thing that Balaji says always amazes him at ICON is the recognition he receives from everyone in the business, from his manager and right up to the senior management team. Knowing that his efforts don’t go unnoticed reminds him of the great work culture at ICON – something that can be harder to come by in a global organisation. Balaji notes that ICON has always supported him personally as well as professionally, and there couldn’t be a much better reason to work with a company.
Join ICON on our mission to improve patients’ lives
For Balaji, working in clinical research is about having the opportunity to improve peoples’ lives and ICON has given him to do that chance to do just that, while allowing him to develop. At ICON, our philosophy is Own It and it sits at the core of our four values. Having such a strong sense of culture means that every colleague at ICON know how they as an individual help us to become a better partner to our customers.
