Director, Finance Revenue - Office Based, Dublin
The Director of Revenue Recognition is responsible for the day-to-day execution as well as the ongoing evolution and improvement of the organisation’s global revenue cycle. He/she will control and report on the organisation’s revenue accurately on a monthly basis and aid the VP Finance/Business Leadership in the decision making process through the provision of superior financial analysis. This position will also analyse revenue accounting impacts and implement new revenue accounting policies.
The Director of Revenue Recognition will contribute to the tactical input for the various business units regarding recognition and timing of revenue, in accordance with other members of the management team. The appointee will lead and guide the revenue accounting team and ensure the revenue results of the global entities are properly reported based on U.S. generally accepted accounting principles of GAAP (ASC 605 and 606).
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a complex global organisation, understanding the nuances that various geographies hold. He/she will shape a team of individuals responsible for the day-to-day operation of revenue functions of a multi-location, multi-national distributed business. This role will also require a breadth of organisational leadership as well as change/project management skills, so to ensure that function is responsive and continually provides ‘centre of excellence’ support to business initiatives and challenges.
Responsibilities
Processes/controls
- Ensure that the correct operational controls, reporting procedures, and systems for revenue recognition are in place throughout the organisation
- Ensure that robust internal control systems are in place to assure the integrity of the organisation's revenue management and statutory reporting
- Lead the development of best practice and relevant accounting standards, policies and procedures, creating meaningful impact at all levels where appropriate
- Maintain and build an organisation that appreciates the criticality of strong revenue accounting practices, ensuring high levels of governance and compliance, particularly with regard to SOX processes
- Manage the annual audit and quarterly reviews and the SOX testing process
- Collaborate with internal customers and stakeholders to develop, challenge and continually improve processes and systems aligned with revenue recognition
- Ensure that relevant accounting policies and procedures are documented, understood, and reviewed/ updated as necessary.
Reporting
- Ensure best in class Business Intelligence revenue reporting is developed and implemented, in both operating businesses and at management level to optimise timely decision-making and monitoring of business outcomes
- Develop and implement appropriate revenue recognition practices & policies throughout the business to ensure accounting, financial and operating reports accurately reflect the financial results of the business and provide reliable information to all stakeholders
- Manage the monthly and quarterly revenue reporting close process to strict deadlines ensuring integrity and accuracy of the information reported
Teambuilding
- Lead, motivate and develop the revenue recognition team with a strong focus on coaching and recognising opportunities for development in order to achieve KPIs
- Demonstrate exemplary people management and in line with organisation policies and procedures
- Proactively use the Performance Management Process as a means to support resource planning within your team
- Resource the revenue recognition team and define the roles to deliver the business strategy
- The organisation actively promotes succession planning for key roles. The Director of Revenue Recognition will be expected to develop succession plans in respect of key roles within his/her area of responsibility.
Performance Improvement/Relationship Management
- Develop and monitor key business target setting and performance improvement indicators in conjunction with the VP Finance
- Create and maintain a strong customer centric culture within the revenue recognition team
- Apply knowledge to develop systems and business processes for revenue recognition that increase efficiency or support emerging business initiatives or transactions
- Provide advice on the impact of revenue recognition policies to key stakeholders; in doing so build and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues in elated function inter alia billing, operations, sales, legal, corporate finance, investor relations and finance business partners
- Communicate effectively with business unit leaders and the management team to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of revenue levers, procedures, and controls.
Qualifications
- A relevant honours degree from a third level institution
- Membership of a recognised, professional accountancy body.
- 10+ years’ post qualification experience, of financial accounting, revenue recognition or audit experience, with a minimum of eight years in a management capacity
- Ideally, work experience in a publicly quoted environment
- Comprehensive and technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP software revenue recognition rules, including deep understanding of new revenue standards (ASC 606)
- Experienced in a range of finance disciplines including corporate finance, regulatory reporting, taxation and treasury
- Leadership in all technical finance matters through building organisation wide ‘centre of excellence’ for revenue recognition; continually aligning this function with the emerging needs of the business
- Multi-skilled professional comfortable working with all levels of the organisation
- Advanced business analysis skills to evaluate, select and implement ‘best in class’ revenue recognition solutions capable of making a substantial contribution to the organisation’s capability to grow its business.
