OVERVIEW OF ROLE

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast paced, busy environment for a leading global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries.

As a Procurement Specialist you will be responsible for managing a number of categories in the provision of world class procurement service that delivers a competitive advantage to ICON including stakeholder & supplier management.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Travel (approximately 5%) domestic and/or international

·         Managing a spend of circa €50M

·         Instigate a fundamental review of various portfolios, recommending subsequent business realignment, governance structures and transition plans

·         Maintaining knowledge of a category, region or function in which they operate including market dynamics and procurement process life cycles.

·         Working closely with internal business partners to understand their requirements, mapping these to the ICON strategy and driving the ICON agenda.

·         Develop and implement category procurement plans to deliver maximum commercial advantage to ICON to include selection and application of appropriate procurement processes for a particular product and or service.

·         Taking a lead on procurement improvement projects to manage cost and performance improvement.

·         Responsible for collection and analysis of data for a given category; leading Strategic Sourcing and Category Management processes (RFX) that are efficient and effective at extracting value; This includes selection of, recommendation of, and negotiation of contracts with suppliers.

 

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

·         Proven experience in category management

 

·         Experience of analysing cost and spend and recommending improvements

·         Good relationship builder with both internal and external stakeholders

·         Good understanding of managing and controlling cost

·         Experience in Pharmaceutical or Medical Device procurement within a GMP manufacturing environment is highly desirable. The successful candidate must possess leading expertise in one or more categories/commodities and a proven track record of successfully managing projects, resources, cross-functional and the facilitation of global teams

·         Strong analytical and critical thinking, communication, problem solving and prioritisation skills are required. A demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision is essential.
