The Medical Editor is a valuable member of a team comprised of top-notch talent, collaborating to produce innovative content in a variety of media that brings the client's managed markets strategy to life. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented editorial professional with exceptional skills to proofread, edit, fact-check, and manage multiple projects in a fast paced, highly demanding environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for applying AMA and CHC style consistently across jobs and becoming familiar with client preferences
  • The medical editor will apply proper formatting to all jobs (references, outlines, headings, tables, and figures) and to specific jobs when requested (formatting for submission to journals or conferences)
  • The medical editor will work with the editorial and operations staff to ensure timely completion of editing tasks. He/she should be mindful of accomplishing tasks within the allotted time frame and alert the appropriate staff when deadlines are in jeopardy.
  • Editing 85%, Edit specific projects as assigned (outlines, manuscripts, abstracts, slide presentations, posters, meeting reports, training materials, in-house documents, etc)
  • Edit graphical material (tables, figures, charts) and cross-check against main text  Responsible for clarity, consistency, and accuracy of all jobs assigned
  • Responsible for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and usage for all jobs assigned
  • Work with editorial and operations staff to incorporate changes to written materials
  • Maintain command of AMA and CHC styles of writing
  • Become familiar with client preferences by reviewing client style sheets before each job
  • Format manuscripts for journal submission or resubmission
  • Format abstracts or posters for submission to conferences
  • Proof galley pages from journals against submitted Word documents
  • Assist Senior Medical Editors with their jobs upon request (literature searches and analysis, tagging articles, data checks, reference checks) Staff and Client Liaison 10%
  • Maintain direct communications with other medical editors, editorial assistant, writers, and project managers about current jobs as necessary
  • Accomplish tasks within allotted time frame and/or informing senior staff if tasks cannot be completed in the allotted time frame
  • Advise senior staff of circumstances that will adversely affect accomplishing tasks on budget, such as extra time needed for jobs written out of house, referencing issues, formatting issues, etc
  • Track time to complete each job and update Editing Log, Fact Checking Log, and Timefox (for select clients)
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of required software (MS Office suite, Sharepoint, Acrobat Pro, EndNote, iThenticate)
  • Perform responsibilities in a professional manner, meeting company mission and goals
 
To Succeed You Will Need:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferably in English, Science or Communications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a medical editor
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical agency or pharmaceutical company
  • Well-versed in the American Medical Association Manual of Style
  • Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat Pro and Endnote
