My journey at ICON: Medical Imaging Project Assistant

Posting date: 06/12/2022
Author: Inside ICON
Taylor was new to the clinical research field when she joined ICON as a Medical Imaging Project Assistant, and has since settled into what she hopes will be a long and successful career with ICON. She spoke to us about her first few weeks with the company.

“The onboarding and interview process at ICON is very smooth”

About two weeks after I first applied, I was contacted to set up a phone interview, which was quickly followed by an in-person interview. The day after this interview, I was offered the Project Assistant position before starting at ICON two-and-a-half weeks later.

“The company and my colleagues have been very welcoming”

My first day at ICON went smoothly – I met my team, familiarised myself with the building and learned more about the business. By day two I was ready to start my online training, which I found efficient and easy to navigate. My co-workers were so helpful any time I had a question, and I found the e-learning process very effective. I spent most of my first week completing this online training, along with taking part in onboarding meetings and observing my colleagues at work. All my team members understand the training process, and are very patient and accommodating. I was able to watch them do specific tasks, and they took the time to explain what they were doing and why.

“The hands-on experience I gained while sitting with my co-workers was extremely beneficial”

My time observing colleagues helped me to understand which tasks I am responsible for, and how to complete them. It also helped me to watch how my co-workers organise their day, their tasks, and their folders. I was granted access to a few studies in my second week, which allowed me to assist my co-workers with some of their tasks. This helped me to gain the experience I need to eventually take over the Project Assistant role in a few studies. I am working on studies that I will eventually take over, and the ability to do a few things on my own is helping me to understand the processes and my duties.

“I didn’t know exactly what my role would be like as a Project Assistant, as the Clinical Research field is new to me”

The live trainings, training materials, and co-worker shadowing helped clearly outline my responsibilities. ICON’s onboarding and learning process has been very effective in helping me with my career change. I hope to follow the lead of my team members and have a long and successful career with ICON.

“I am consistently meeting new people, all of whom are helpful and supportive”

It’s very exciting to work on a team that is a part of saving lives and bettering quality of life. It’s clear that everybody here is dedicated to their work, and I am excited to see what comes next.
