As the Director Scientific Services & Editorial you are responsible for complete oversight of the Scientific Content and Editorial teams including hiring, staff development, training, and workload management. This position requires working with the Scientific Team and Editorial to improve overall editorial quality and to ensure all products delivered to clients are of the highest quality as appropriate to each project.

  • Perform a leadership role in ensuring managers and staff are communicating and coordinating efforts to provide superior services to internal and external customers
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to staff or clients directly on industry trends, best practices, strategy, innovative programming, and other relevant strategic topics in market access and reimbursement or medical communications
  • Contribute to sales efforts to achieve targets in new and existing accounts
  • Support RFI/RFPs development for future growth opportunities with current clients and for future clients as needed, including strategy for presenting ICON to client slide development and response to questions
  • Collaborate across other teams in the division to develop new project types and to utilize shared resources in an effective manner
  • Conduct review of proposals from Account team prior to finalization to ensure specifications are accurate and pricing is appropriate
  • Maintains supervisory responsibility for Editorial personnel and Creative Services or similar
  • Partners with various members of management to identify and manage resources to ensure effective and efficient content development.
  • Accountable for the accuracy of the content, the completeness of the metadata, and the quality of the presentation of all content utilized
  • Manages project specific editorial resources including insourcing and outsourcing (medical writers, reviewers, production artists, etc).
  • Able to identify important and critical issues in the context of overall priorities. Balances poise and a sense of urgency. Within the context of the business strategy and objectives, works to identify and eliminate factors creating the crisis and to minimize recurrence.
  • Manage staff to achieve and optimize group-level productivity, profitability, recoverability, and other business measures as defined
  • Ensure delivery of quality editorial projects within specifications, timelines, and budgets
  • Ensure that each project produced is of the highest editorial quality
  • Develop, communicate, and ensure that editorial standards are applied to allow for delivery of high-quality editorial products, as defined by clients and editors of targeted journals
  • Interact with clients to ensure that their needs are understood and the product team is meeting and, ideally, exceeding their expectations
  • Participate in the development and application of a client satisfaction methodology to allow for the measurement and monitoring of client editorial satisfaction
  • Ensure oversight at the product team level of scientific integrity and technical accuracy of all editorial projects to ensure maintenance of editorial quality
  • Communicate editorial standards and styles to assist with quality control on all levels of a project
  • Assist with quality-assurance sign-off as appropriate
  • Maintain a working knowledge of editorial guidelines and issues that impact commercial medical writing and publication planning

What you need

  • A minimum of a Master's degree or local equivalent
  • Minimum of 6-9 years of related experience
  • Strong communication skills written and orally
  • Strong computer skills, sound knowledge of MS Office Suite and Adobe
  • Ability to multi-task, support various projects
