Position Overview:

The Executive Principal – Insights, Evidence & Value drives the development and execution of the business strategy as an industry-recognized KOL and senior leader of a division, department, business unit and/or practice area.

Job Description:

  • Achieve agreed upon annual performance goals to include financial, people leadership and employee engagement and enablement
  • Recognizes, exemplifies and adheres to ICON's values which center on our commitment to People, Clients and Performance
  • As an Executive Principal, the employee is expected to recognize the importance of, and create a culture of process improvement with a focus on streamlining our processes, adding value to our business and meeting client needs
  • Travel (approximately 40%) domestic and/or international.
  • Proactively drives the expansion of department-wide knowledge on Service Line-related research methods, related news, trends and best practices 
  • Continually cultivates, develops and maintains positive business relationships with other functional teams and departments within ICON PLC
  • Performs other duties and tasks as are allocated at the reasonable discretion of the Company

SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTISE

  • The Executive Principal provides strategic direction and management of the assigned business in multiple defined key focus areas, methodologies and/or scientific fields on a global scale driving strategic collaboration across ICON’s business units to provide clients with holistic solutions to complex and multi-functional scientific and operational challenges

CLIENT DEVELOPMENT

  • Acts as scientific thought partner with the client and the project team across multi-project programs.
  • Drive forward scientific innovation based on current industry trends, research publications and regulatory directives.
  • Focuses on strategic partnerships; expands existing relationships into multi-service relationships
  • Proactively pursues new client relationship opportunities and leads the organization to meet changing client needs; responsible for teams’ alignment and support of BD efforts
  • Coaches staff and oversees the development of project plans and scientific content in proposals and achieves good conversion rate of submitted and won proposals
  • Represents Service Line at internal and external meetings and strategy review presentations/overviews 
  • Maintain distinguished thought leadership presence in the industry through regular publications and presentations.

PROJECT & RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Serves as scientific KOL to other principal investigators or staff on other projects
  • Acts in a strategic advisory capacity, to effectively manage and mitigate complex risk issues across multiple projects, service lines, and functions.
  • Examines and defines factors that could adversely affect department’s project execution, or the potential to win future projects. e.g. resource constraints, industry trends, customer satisfaction, etc. 
  • Develops strategies to overcome and mitigate risk

OPERATIONAL

  • The Executive Principal oversees a functional area of the business including departmental P&L ownership, resourcing decision making, operational infrastructure to support growth, etc. 
  • Instigate and lead high profile departmental improvement initiatives
  • Resolves complex team issues by achieving common purpose.  
  • Facilitates the discussion and fosters the resolution of conflicts or disagreement across functional teams and departments.
  • Ensures that communication across the team is highly effective, including across offices
  • Responsible for assigned function operational strategy development and execution ensuring successful achievement of revenue/ sales targets and gross margins.
  • Complies with all relevant SOPs, work programming, time-keeping, iLearns, policies and procedures
