Role: Marketing Technical Writer

Location: Ireland, Dublin

The role:

Responsible and accountable for the execution of collateral and content pieces that showcase the company’s broad clinical research expertise across service lines and therapeutic areas.

  • Using your technical and/or medical writing background, write collateral – including but not limited to whitepapers, fact sheets, website copy, blog posts – to support marketing initiatives for ICON business units

  • Learn and understand trends / themes within the clinical research industry in order to compile data, insights and story angles on relevant topics and therapeutic areas that will drive content creation and overarching strategy

  • Develop messaging structures and strategies to support ICON business units and key service lines

  • Work closely with marketing partners to develop content with compelling angles, messaging, data points and other insights to enhance ICON’s reputation and expertise in the marketplace

  • Engage with subject matter experts (SMEs) in an interview setting to transfer their knowledge to marketing collateral and campaign materials; interact with them regularly to secure feedback, edits, and approvals

  • Support ICON executives to develop compelling thought leadership pieces suitable for use across both corporate and personal digital channels

  • Collaborate with other marketing discipline leads – including design, social media, PR, digital and various agency partners – on marketing materials, campaigns and larger brand initiatives

  • Regularly update and maintain ICON’s database of content to ensure accuracy and that appropriate changes are incorporated

  • Utilise ICON writing and style guidelines to ensure consistency across the brand and among all users; assist managers in updating guidance as needed

  • Take a leadership role in maintaining appropriate tone, theme, and messaging consistency across all ICON external marketing channels

  • Assist the public relations team in writing technical copy suitable for public announcements, earned media articles and paid advertorials

  • Provide regular project updates and insights to the Comms & PR leader and the larger Global Marketing team as requested

Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree or its international equivalent in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, literature, or a similarly related area of study; or equivalent work experience required

  • At least 3 years of experience as a technical writer

  • Excellent writing and editing skills — both technical and creative proficiency for a variety of audiences across multiple channels

  • Previous writing experience - in-house, agency or established freelance – focused on the healthcare / life sciences / pharma / biotech industries preferred

  • Ability to take complicated topics or information and distil it to be suitable for broader B2B healthcare / life sciences audiences

  • Some experience writing for brand marketing or communication functions

  • Basic understanding marketing and the creative process and how to work with strategists, designers, other copywriters, content specialists and web developers

  • Efficacy working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment

  • A collaborative and team-oriented approach to integrated marketing, while also possessing the ability to work independently

  • Ability to manage multiple (and sometimes competing) demands and priorities

  • Tact and discretion to work with colleagues at all levels
