At ICON, we have an incredible opportunity for a Medical Technologist II to join the team in our Leopardstown, Dublin 18 location.
The Role:
Job Title: Medical Technologist II (Infectious Diseases)
Location: Ireland, Dublin 18
- Perform processing and analysis of clinical specimens in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. These should be processed within agreed turnaround times.
- Perform Enzyme Immunoassay (ELISA) Laboratory testing procedures both traditional ELISA and automated ELISA methods.
- Perform Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing on automated Instruments.
- Assure equipment and instruments meet performance standards.
- Perform necessary equipment checks, preventive maintenance, and quality control on equipment per laboratory guidelines, as assigned.
- Participate and manage the validation of new assays being introduced into the department.
- Accepts direction and instructions from the Laboratory Manager / Senior Scientist and assists in overseeing work performed by staff in the Laboratory department.
- Assure the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory’s Quality Control Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assists with responding to Queries and Quality issues, participates in the validation of new Procedures, writing and maintaining SOPs and related quality documents.
- Responsible for training new employees in the section as well as maintaining training files.
- Participate in the External Proficiency Testing Program as assigned.
- Notify Laboratory Manager / Senior Scientist of discrepancies and records of corrective action taken.
- Good laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently, efficiently, and part of a team are essential.
To be successful in the role, you will ideally have:
- Bachelors’ degree in Medical Technology, Immunology, Biomedical Science OR a related Life Science with 3 - 5 years Laboratory experience.
- A postgraduate qualification such as FIBMS/FAMLS/ASCP or MSc while highly desirable is not essential.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, good laboratory, and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and efficiently and good attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, along with an orientation toward teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Validation of new assays will be advantageous.
- Familiar with the operation of laboratory equipment with a demonstrated ability to check that equipment is functioning within its specifications and to respond appropriately to abnormalities.
- Ability to work in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to keep accurate, legible records and recognize the need to handle these records and all other information in line with GCP/GLP/GDP.
- Demonstrates a high level of personal accountability, integrity, and ethical behaviour with a responsible and mature approach to work duties.
