Senior Linguist

ICON Plc is seeking an English>Japanese (Japan) Lead Linguist to join our Language Services team. The linguist will play a critical role in effectively driving and communicating evolving customer requirements, and in unifying the style, tone, terminology, and quality across the Japanese translation. The main duty is to establish and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships with a client’s language counterparts. The preferred candidate will use critical thinking in collaborating with project teams to enable quick-turnaround translations with consistent high quality on Japanese language-related assignments. This is a full-time position based in Japan, with expectation to work in the office on occasions.

What you will be doing

・ Provides quality assurance and review services to validate linguist quality produced by other team members or by external service providers. 
・ Creates and maintains all the language assets such as translation memories, glossaries, dictionaries, and other reference materials. 
・Create an effective feedback loop between client and internal stakeholders. 
・Work with clients to understand their requirements and preferences and convert them into terminology and glossary for others to follow consistently. 
・Identifies and develops plans for addressing operational process improvements. 
・Implement and manage quality control processes to maintain the accuracy and consistency of translations. 
・May train other members of the team. 
・Provides linguistic, translation, and revision services including post-edit reviews of machine translation outputs. 
・Handle multiple ongoing translation projects simultaneously. 
・ Support/lead training sessions to ensure ongoing development and adherence to industry standards. 
・ Exhibit strong mindset towards production processes and quality assurance.
  

Your Profile

・ Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field.  
・ Excellent command of the English and Japanese languages. 
・ 5 years of relevant full-time professional translation experience within the
medical/pharma/clinical research fields. 
・ Previous project and/or account management experience within the translation industry is preferred.  
・ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel 
・ Proficient in computer-assisted translation software. 
・ Familiarity with machine-translation software is preferred.
