Director, Immunoassay Services (Whitesboro, NY Laboratory)

You would also need to understand the ICON business globally; control costs and think in terms of profit, loss and added value; and to promote ICON effectively in all interactions.
You would also provide oversight and guidance of study timelines and activities. This includes ensuring appropriate resources are available and scheduling of instrumentation is optimized.
The role
- Responsible for ensuring that appropriate technical, communication and commercial skill sets exist in all staff including provision of appropriate training to ensure the appropriate skill mix is maintained relevant to the role each staff member fulfils in the business.
- Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the laboratory and ensuring that at all times it presents the most professional image possible to all stakeholders.
- Responsible for ensuring that all equipment used in the laboratory is appropriately maintained and operating to the levels required for delivery of highest quality results from our laboratories. Responsible for tracking and maintaining metrics for assigned laboratories which provide visibility into the underlying operational performance of the laboratories.
- Responsible for working closely with QA to ensure appropriate regulatory standards and requirements are being met in the delivery of studies to Clients.
- Expected to set a clear and convincing future direction, while communicating with clarity. Develop supporting staff skills, encourage growth and provide regular performance feedback. Maintenance of Laboratory Accreditation and Quality Standards Responsible for ensuring that all instrumentation is validated and qualified to regulatory and client requirements and used in accordance with our SOPs.
- Work with leaders and colleagues in other laboratories to regularly review and assess the appropriateness of SOPs and amend where required including establishing harmonized SOPs with sister laboratories in the group. Responsible for keeping abreast of ongoing regulatory updates and work with laboratory leaders ensuring the laboratory SOPs and quality standards are updated to maintain compliance with such standards.
- Responsible for ensuring that all assigned laboratories respond appropriately to all regulatory and client audits and act promptly to satisfactorily address any findings.
- Responsible for working alongside business development and operations to win appropriate new business from new and existing clients and deliver defined revenue and profit targets as set out in budget and relevant forecasting cycles.
- Undertake business development activities either alone, with operational staff or with relevant business development Executives to ensure backlog is maintained.
- Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of good communications between the bioanalytical laboratory and all other parts of ICON. Responsible for regular scientific and relationship liaising with clients on the conduct of their studies and potential opportunities.
- To work as part of the site management team working toward the growth, development and maintenance of a high quality and profitable bioanalytical group.
- Responsible for working with other members of the organisation to develop new markets and services to improve ICON's bioanalytical portfolio offering for clients and enhance our growth and profitability. Deliver high quality standards and strive for excellence; act in a proactive, flexible and responsive manner to client needs. Any other duties as assigned. Responsible for direct line management of laboratory personnel.
- Provide mentorship and training (technical, communication and commercial) to reports across the group.
- Responsible for ensuring that all laboratory staff maintain optimal communication with our clients and with internal stakeholders. Ensure staff technical standards are maintained and appropriate training is provided and completed within appropriate timelines, and training record documentation are accurate and current. Prepare and maintain staff development plans and succession planning within the laboratory.
- Approximately 20% of travel (domestic and/or international)
What you need
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - A Ph.D. or MSc or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other Biological Science such as Biology, Molecular Biology, or Immunology.
- In depth proven (US only - 5-7 years) leadership experience working as part of a bioanalytical environment (or equivalent) where there was an emphasis on production of high quality results.
- Prior relevant (US only - 2-4 years) experience of working in a GLP/GC(L)P environment and managing GLP/GC(L)P audits of laboratory facilities.
- Prior relevant (US only - 2-4 years) experience in delivering client-focused service.
- In-depth understanding of the CRO or Pharma industry.
- In-depth proven management expertise.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment
