Director, Medical & Scientific Affairs- onsite Farmingdale, NY

The Director is responsible for overseeing functional teams within Scientific Affairs that contribute to the validation and implementation of new analytical test solutions, the modification of existing tests and the launch of new laboratory platforms and instrumentation to support clinical drug development programs.  The Director will also lead cross-functional communications and process improvement initiatives to drive superior performance, efficiency, and delivery of new analytical test solutions.

• Ownership of NAR process. 

• Monitor sponsor needs, regulatory requirements, and competitor offerings.

• Works across the ICON organization to optimize and simplify the use of ILS’s Scientific Affairs teams and services to help drive productivity and cost control.

• Works with project leaders, business development representatives and proposal developers to help position the services provided by the Scientific Affairs function and other laboratory resources in the overall strategy for a new opportunity.

• Provides expertise and consultation to project teams and clients as needed to influence both laboratory and clinical development strategies and optimize the use of ILS services.

• maintains a positive, results oriented and engaging work environment.

• Communicates to the team in an open, balanced, and objective manner.
• Undertakes the full range of duties relevant to the leadership, management, and development of the team to ensure staff members’ performance meets and/or exceeds both the business and their own personal goals/objectives

• Works with executive management in developing people leaders and ensuring a talented pipeline of management staff with the department, including individual development plans and succession plans

• Has management responsibility through subordinate managers as well as planning for the teams’ future needs and operations.

• Participates in formal staff performance review processes• Performs a leadership role in ensuring managers and staff are communicating and coordinating efforts to provide superior services to internal and external customers.

• Provides strategic leadership and interacts frequently with other executive and senior leaders across ICON.

• Develops employees and drives career development for staff members.

• Travel (approximately 10%) domestic and/or international.

What you need: 

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in sciences, Advanced degree preferred.  

8+ years of experience working with a clinical laboratory information system: specific experience working with ICOLIMS and STARLIMS preferred.

5+ years of experience of analytical method validation in accordance with CAP/CLIA and CLSI requirements

Salary Range

$199,600 to $239,480

Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, education/training, and skill level.   You may be eligible for a bonus, stock compensation and commissions in some cases depending on your role and performance.
