Job Title: Medical Technologist II (Microbiology)

At ICON, we have an incredible opportunity for a Medical Technologist II (Microbiology) to join the team in our Leopardstown, Dublin 18 location.
The Role:
- Perform processing and analysis of clinical microbiology specimens in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. These should be processed within agreed turnaround times.
- Operate laboratory equipment carefully and in according with SOPs.
- Perform necessary equipment checks, preventive maintenance, and quality control on equipment per laboratory guidelines, as assigned.
- Accepts direction and instructions from the Laboratory Manager / Senior Microbiologist and assists in overseeing work performed by staff in the Laboratory department.
- Maintain Quality Control related documents.
- Assure the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory’s Quality Control Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assists with responding to queries and quality issues, and participates in ‘root cause’ analysis investigations, work flow assignments, writing of SOPs, quality documents and validation of new procedures.
- Responsible for training of employees in the section as well as maintaining training files.
- Participate in the External Proficiency Testing Program as assigned.
- Notify Laboratory Manager / Senior Microbiologist of discrepancies and records of corrective action taken.
- Good laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently, efficiently and part of a team are essential.

To be successful in the role, you will ideally have:
- Bachelors’ degree in Microbiology / Medical Technology or equivalent OR A BSc degree in Science/Biomedical Science / Biological Science degree with 2-5 years industry/clinical microbiology laboratory experience
- Specific experience with Clinical Microbiology Procedures: Pathogen culture, Identification and Antimicrobial Susceptibility will be advantageous.
- Medical Mycology and Parasitology experience will be beneficial.
- Proficiency in handling Lab equipment, clinical samples and Microscopy experience desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, good laboratory and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently and efficiently and good attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask, along with an orientation toward teamwork and problem solving skills.
- Basic working knowledge / experience using a LIMS system
- Familiar with the operation of laboratory equipment with a demonstrated ability to check that equipment is functioning within its specifications and to respond appropriately to abnormalities.
- Experience in an accredited testing laboratory environment.
- Ability to work in conformance with standard operating procedure and conditions with a systematic approach to tasks committed to seeing things through to completion.
- Demonstrated ability to keep accurate, legible records and recognize the need to handle these records and all other information in line with GCP/GLP/GDP.
- Demonstrates a high level of personal integrity and ethical behaviour with a responsible and mature approach to work duties. A willingness to lead from the front and inspire by example.
