The Role:
The Core Automation team at ICON plc is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer. In this role the Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing automated workflows against a multitude of enterprise systems. You will serve as a technical leader within a diverse team comprised of seasoned engineers with mixed backgrounds and skillsets.
The mission of the Core Automation team is to help overburdened operational staff regain control and shift their focus from tedious day-to-day matters to strategic efforts. With this responsibility you will partner with operational teams to take existing practices and apply technical solutions to automate tasks. This will include exposure to everything from highly configurable COTS systems to complex bespoke software developed right here at ICON.
Duties will include:
- Designing the architecture patterns for automation across the enterprise.
- Serving as a technical leader for team members and peers across the organization.
- Developing complex automated solutions in C#/.NET and PowerShell, including point to point solutions and RESTful interfaces for event driven automation.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams in the design, development, and implementation of automated solutions.
- Partnering with analysts to review the value stream mapping of existing processes for the development of either new or improved solutions.
- Technical mentoring, code review, and knowledge transfer to support the growth of the team.
- Leading the pre-due-diligence effort as automation opportunities are identified, and to identify areas of improvement within existing automations.
- Development of dashboards for operational intelligence and self-service web applications for streamlined processes.
- Working closely with teams across the enterprise to improve efficiency of infrastructure and service delivery.
To be successful in the role, you will ideally have:
- A strong, demonstrable background serving as a technical leader performing service delivery in an Infrastructure Operations or Development Operations team.
- Full stack design and development experience in C#/.NET, implementing RESTful APIs and dashboards/front ends.
- Experience with the architecture design patterns and implementation of complex distributed systems is a plus.
- Expertise in automation scripting and the flexibility to learn new languages.
- A penchant for solving problems, writing utility scripts in the tools available, and a watchful eye for technical or operational risks on the horizon.
- Experience with Test Driven Development, a passion for full code coverage, and an understanding of why this is a necessary practice.
- Development of automation techniques in highly secured environments, including implementation of the necessary security standards and development practices to maintain operational resilience in the constantly evolving threat landscape of today.
- Hands on experience with the design, configuration, deployment, and optimization of technical solutions.
- A passion for seamless uptime, infrastructure resiliency, and motivation to constantly seek new ways to improve service delivery.
- Experience with virtualization technologies, both cloud and on premise, including the design and deployment of systems.
- Experience with release management, sprint planning, and appropriately scoping effort to stay on track with tight delivery schedules.
- Experience with the following technology, or equivalent experience: ServiceNow, vSphere, Azure Active Directory, Containerization, Infrastructure as Code
- Experience with Ansible, Terraform, and Container Orchestration is a plus.
