Lead Clinical Data Science Programmer

Job Desciption:

• Independently, uses technical, industrial, and interpersonal skills,  to oversee and lead teams in the programming of clinical data management system (CDMSs) and Non-CDMS components (including dynamic electronic case report form (eCRF) checks, edit checks, custom programs and integrations), risk management analytics solutions, and to develop and maintain programs required for handling external vendor data. 
• Actively participates in internal meetings and provides constructive feedback to peers, team leads and managers, and functional
management. 
• Organises, creates, and oversees the administration of training and mentoring for junior levels. 
• Supports knowledge sharing within the peer group through presentations and preparation of training materials. 
• Development of materials for the bid defence process and client demonstrations. 
• May act as a subject matter expert (SME) within a specific area of the team, and lead teams of other SMEs.

Functional Knowledge:
• In-depth functional knowledge of two or more areas of clinical data science programming (CDMS, data validation, data ingestion and extraction, risk management and analytics) and full knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including differing approaches to SDLC.
• Understands and is able to support colleagues with the more complex aspects of clinical trials and the concepts of Clinical Data Management Systems, data ingestion and risk based analytics solutions
Business Expertise:
• Typically functions as the primary point of contact during the study set up phase for system programming related questions by the project team
• Independently, performs reviews of database specifications, and programs one to two Clinical Data Management and/or Electronic Data Capture systems
• May help lead in the reviews other study-related documents and proactively helps to gather comments from the study team and client
• Initiate, build and maintain collaborative working relationships with stakeholders in order to elicit business requirements, identify dependencies and support the creation of specifications for any medium-to- high complexity data review and analytic outputs.
• Program any medium-to- high complexity data ingestion, CDMS, data review/risk management outputs, custom reports and programs
• Communicate any medium-to -high complexity analytics requirements and solutions effectively to other team members and stakeholders
• May oversee the complete SDLC of , data ingestion, CDMS, data review and data analytics programming, working with programmers for development, testing and validation activities.
• May program any clinical study database screens (eCRF) per provided specifications and provide design related input to meet protocol and other study related requirements.
• Design and build cross-page visualisation solutions in analytics tools; build information models, including database write-back; write R and python scripts as required.
• Identify, track and actively mitigate project risks and keeps functional management and those responsible for project management informed of any issues that might affect project target dates, scope or budget and escalates potential problems effectively and in a timely manner.
• Perform extracts of data and creation of data transfer programs.
• Independently assures quality of own programming outputs and ensures high quality deliverables of those of other programmers as directed by providing senior review of study-level/program-level deliverables and supports validation activities per the formal, documented QC process.
• Proactively participates in project level revenue recognition/forecasting process and be able to provide input regarding actual and forecasts units/hrs (revenue and resources) to project team leads and CDS management
• Other responsibilities may be assigned as required
Leadership:
• Typically serves as the project-specific Programmer Lead for one or more projects with responsibility for all project programming deliveries on a team or portfolio level, independently directing other Clinical Data Science Programmers as required within service and quality expectation and, in project lead role, ability to lead client meetings and audits.
• Manage own and assigned resource time effectively on single, moderately complex programming projects or parallel standard programming projects.
• Acts as mentor to more junior programming staff, and develops and provides essential support to other colleagues with complex programming deliverables.
• Embrace and contribute to a culture of process improvement with a focus on streamlining processes and adding value to the business and client needs.
• May lead other SMEs within the programming team.
• Lead the delivery of multiple, parallel analytics projects, including complex deliveries, documenting all development and project management activities.
• Travel (approximately 10 %) domestic and/or international, when or if required.
• Typical years of experience 5+. An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered in place of the education and experience stated
