Job Title: Senior Medical Technologist (Infectious Diseases)

At ICON, we have an incredible opportunity for a Laboratory Supervisor to join the Infectious Diseases team in our Leopardstown, Dublin 18 location.
The Role:
- Recognize, exemplify, and adhere to ICON's values.
- Monitor the daily activities of the laboratory department specialising in Enzyme Immunoassays, Nucleic Acid Amplification Testing on automated instruments.
- Monitors and reviews Proficiency testing, laboratory QC data, Sample TATs and Equipment and Instrument Maintenance.
- Ensures quality control procedures are adhered to, monitors QC data such as mean and standard deviations for quality control materials and maintain Corrective action logs as appropriate.
- Support validation of new methodologies and instrumentation into the dept. and works closely with the Global Validations Department.
- Assists with responding to Quality issues and manages Quality Documentation including writing and maintaining SOPs.
- Assist with staff training and development of technologists including staff competencies.
- Reports directly to and works with the Laboratory Supervisor, in supporting all activities in the Laboratory department.
- Effectively monitors laboratory operations and provides guidance to staff for all issues that arise including, instrument failures, reagent/ quality control issues, sample integrity issues, delays in testing and communication of abnormal results.
- Assists in training and development of staff as required.
- Encourages an environment that motivates people and maintains a positive working environment ensuring and staff engagement.
- To deputise for the Supervisor in the event of his or her absence
- Assist Supervisor in ensuring there are sufficient personnel to cover workflow.
- Liaise with internal customers, auditors, vendors, and staff on all department levels.
- Participate in Patient and External Proficiency Testing where required (up to 50%)
What you will need:
- BSc. in Medical Technology, Immunology, Biomedical Science OR a related Life Science with 2+ years Laboratory experience including leadership or Supervisor experience.
- A postgraduate qualification such as an MSc or PhD while desirable, is not essential.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and effectively.
- Experience as a team lead with direct reports and couching / mentoring experience is desirable.
- Ability to multitask, confident decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to keep accurate, legible records and recognize the need to handle these records and all other information in line with GCP/GLP/GDP.
- High level of personal accountability, integrity, and ethical behaviour with a responsible and mature approach to work duties and people management.
